“Bluesukan” came from a slight change in the Indonesian word Blusukan, which is the practice of government officials appearing in traditional markets and other social spaces to show that people have not forgotten their roots and remained interested in the lives of the less privileged.

Formed through the collaborative effort of Jason Limanjaya (piano), and Otto Stuparitz (bass), Bluesukan began with Jason's question about what Indonesian jazz is. Otto answered that it is about what sounds we make together. The duo played a few gigs and were lucky to have Cucu Kurnia join on kendang (traditional Sundanese drum) and Farrell Uwa on suling (traditional Sundanese flute). ... more
